How to Beat the Heat in PGH
Summer sessions in Pittsburgh bring all the golden light and outdoor fun—but let’s be honest, they can also bring the heat. If you’ve got little ones and you're wondering how to keep everyone comfortable and meltdown-free during a summer family session, this one’s for you.
1. Choose the Right Time of Day
Golden hour (the hour before sunset) is my go-to for a reason—it’s cooler, softer light, and generally more relaxed. Golden hour can also mean the hour after sunrise, and this works too if your kids are early risers!
2. Dress for the Weather
Light, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen are your best friends. Avoid heavy layers or dark colors that trap heat. Think flowy dresses, short sleeves, and bare feet when possible.
3. Hydration is Key
Bring water bottles (for everyone!) and offer sips often. I also love packing a small cooler with cold snacks like fruit or pouches for the kiddos.
4. Don’t Forget the Shade
We’ll use shaded areas for breaks and photos alike. Parks with tree cover or spots with built-in shade can make a big difference.
5. Keep It Moving, Keep It Fun
Sessions with me are relaxed and play-based—we keep things moving and playful so kids don’t overheat or get bored. Lots of breaks, games, and silly prompts keep the energy up and the vibes happy.
6. Embrace a Little Mess
Sweaty curls, dirt smudges, popsicle-stained smiles? It’s all part of the memory. I promise these moments will look *adorable* in an album and on your walls.
Final Thoughts
Summer photos are full of light, love, and movement—but a little planning goes a long way. I’ll help guide the flow so you can focus on loving on your people while I capture the magic.
