Best Places in Pittsburgh for Spring Family Photos
Pittsburgh can be known for it's drawn-out winters and gray skies, so once springtime hits, it's just pure magic! Everything starts to bloom, the weather finally warms up, and the soft, and the golden light is perfect for family photos. If you’re thinking about booking a spring session, this is the blog post for you! I’ve put together a list of my favorite spots around the city that are full of gorgeous blossoms and perfect backdrops for capturing your family photos!
1. North Park (Allison Park)
This is hands-down one of my favorite spots in the spring. Thanks to the Pittsburgh Sakura Project, over 250 cherry blossom trees bloom here, creating the dreamiest scenery. The area around the Boathouse and Harmony Shelter is especially beautiful! It’s peaceful, open, and gives us lots of space for little ones to run around and explore.
2. Point State Park (Downtown Pittsburgh)
For families who love the city vibe but still want some nature in their photos, Point State Park is *chef's kiss*. In spring, it’s full of redbud and cherry trees that pop against the city skyline.
3. Three Rivers Heritage Trail (North Shore)
This stretch along the river is one of those hidden gems. The trees along the trail bloom beautifully in spring, and there’s so much variety in the scenery—from riverside views to bridges and parks. It’s great for families who want a little adventure in their session, and it’s stroller-friendly too!
4. Mellon Park (Shadyside)
Mellon Park feels like stepping into a secret garden, especially in the spring. The Walled Garden is quiet, private, and has stunning flowering trees. It’s perfect for families who want a more intimate, cozy vibe for their photos, and the soft colors make everything feel extra dreamy.
5. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens (Oakland)
While the inside of Phipps is stunning year-round, don’t sleep on the outdoor gardens in spring! The cherry blossoms and spring blooms are incredible, and the glasshouse adds such a cool touch to your photos. It’s one of the most unique and vibrant places to shoot in the city.
